OUR
VISIT TO GWENNAP PIT.
On Sunday August 11th, about a dozen of us
boarded the Cawsand Community Bus after having a light lunch (supplied by
ourselves) at Cornerstone Church.
This was to be quite an adventure for some of us as we were on our way to "deepest" Cornwall.
Some had never been that far West. The occasion was for a service at Gwennap Pit, near Redruth, to honour the L.W.P.T ( Leaders of Worship and
Preachers´ Trust).
The Leaders for the afternoon were Rev. Steven Wilde
(Chairman of the Cornwall District, the Methodist Church) and Rev. Peter Pillinger our own Chairman of the District. (Plymouth & Exeter District).
On our arrival at Gwennap we were given a
plastic bag containing a Cream Tea (Cornish Cream – Rhodda´s). This
was a surprise for us, as we were given to understand we would just a cup
of tea and biscuits.
The main address was given by Rev. Steve
Wilde in his own inimitable way (serious but at the same time
entertaining). Rev. Peter Pillinger also gave us much to think about.
We arrived home at about 5 p.m. having
enjoyed a wonderful outing and thanks to our driver, Keith. Our thanks,
too, to Liz Parker for arranging the transport.
